How number porting works

The steps involved in moving your business numbers to a new provider.

Your number is on your signage, invoices and email signatures, so a port needs to be planned carefully.

Number ownership

Number portability is regulated in South Africa. Your number belongs to you, and your current provider must release it, although they can take the full period allowed.

Paperwork

A port request needs the account holder details exactly as your current provider holds them. Most rejected ports are caused by a mismatched company name or an incorrect account number.

Setting up new lines

Handsets are configured and tested on the new service while the old one still carries calls, so the port does not depend on hardware being ready on the day.

The cutover

The switch takes minutes. Schedule it outside trading hours and have someone call every number from outside the building afterwards, so any missed line is found that evening.

Porting dates

The date depends on your current provider, so no provider can guarantee it. We give you a status update whenever you ask.
